Licensing: Janus
Janus is released and distributed with two agreements depending on the type of its usage: academic use, or commercial/industrial use.
The authors of Janus reserve the right to change the agreement terms associated with the Janus platform during the few next weeks.
Academic and Non-Commercial Use
When Janus is used outside any commercial purposes or in academic and research activities, it Open Source Software.
Non-commercial means you are not getting compensated in any form for the products and services you develop using Janus and related tools. Note that academic use of Janus does not qualify for a non-commercial license.
In academic and non-commercial purposes Janus assures right to:
- make and distribute copies of Janus
- have access to the software’s source code
- make improvements to the program
- incorporate Janus into a proprietary program
- continue the Janus experience even if we stopped it !! (which will not happen, because we will not stop Janus so easily)
The license agreement mandates also some duties, and in particular:
- to not keep modifications private
- not change the license of Janus and its modifications
Commercial Use
Any commercial use of Janus must receive an explicit and formal authorization from the authors or their legal representatives.
The authorization of use shall be subject to negotiations between the Janus authors or their legal representatives and the applicant.
